HAIL BRIGHT CECILIA
Mallarmé on the patron saint of music

MALLARMÉ, Stéphane. Poésies.

SANTA

Está à janela tocando
Sândalo velho e descascado
Com sua viola brilhando
Antiga flauta e esmalte dourado

A Santa pálida, mostrando
Um livro velho de que desdobra
Magnificat transbordando
Antiga véspera, matina e obra:

Neste vidro fechando a urna
Que a asa do anjo tange
Formando, com penas, a noturna
Harpa para a frágil falange

Do dedo que, sem sândalo dourado
Balança o espaço, vence-o
Até o instrumento alado
E musica do silêncio.
